Hijacked Hosts

Your ‘hosts’ file may be hijacked, leading to traffic that would normally be directed to Mojang’s authentication servers to be redirected elsewhere.

Fix hijacked hosts fileLearn about the steps required to revert any changes that may have been made to the ‘hosts’ file preventing you from using Essential Mod.

Overview

Essential Mod requires your computer to be able to directly communicate with Mojang’s authentication servers to perform properly, separate applications may have altered this behavior to redirect this traffic away from Mojang.

An example of such is pirated versions of Minecraft, as they use different authentication servers than Mojang. So any previous use of a pirated version of Minecraft will cause your ‘hosts’ file to become hijacked.

To continue using Essential Mod to its full potential, we recommend reverting these changes to their original state.

How to Revert the Changes

Different computer operating systems have different methods of reverting the changes, but will result in the same outcome. Select the guide corresponding to your system.
