Analytics & Data Sharing

Learn about Essential Mod’s optional analytics and required data sharing.
What data is collected, and why?
The data we collect is limited to information about how Essential is used. It falls into two categories: optional analytics data and functionally required data.
Optional analytics
Analytics sharing is completely optional. When you first use Essential, you will be asked whether you’d like to share analytics or not. You can change your decision at any time in the settings.
Examples of analytics data:
Feature usage: Which Essential features and menus you use, and how often.
Store activity: Which cosmetics you preview in the Wardrobe.
In-game cosmetic impressions: Which cosmetics you see on other players.
World hosting: When you start or join a hosted world, and how long those sessions last.
Collecting analytics helps our team make better decisions about the development of Essential. We use this data to:
Understand which Essential features are used the most.
Measure the impact of updates, new features, and bug fixes.
Ensure that our services can scale with the way people are using the mod.
💙
We never sell your data. Optional analytics are only used to understand how Essential is used to fix and improve the mod.
Functionally required data
Some data is always collected, even if you turn off analytics sharing. This data falls into two groups:
Data from things you do on Essential
When you use certain features, the information involved is stored and linked to your account to make it function. For example:
Messages: so that you and the people you talk to can see your conversation history.
Friends, blocked users, and friend requests: so that your friends list is available wherever you play.
Uploaded screenshots: so that you can share a link to your friends.
In-game purchases and cosmetics: so that the items you buy are available to you, and other players can see what you are wearing.
Data about your game setup
When you connect to the Essential network, we gather some information that is required for our services to function. For example:
Username and Minecraft UUID: so that your friends, messages, and screenshots, are available to you.
Minecraft version information: so that we can measure the impact of issues, and decide which versions to support.
Data requests
To request a copy or deletion of your Essential data, you can send an email to requests@essential.gg.
How do I change my analytics sharing?
You can turn analytics sharing on or off at any time in the Essential settings menu.
Open the Essential settings by clicking the settings button on the main menu or the options screen.
Go to
Privacy & Data.Turn on or off
Share analytics with Essential. If disabled, functionally required data will still be collected as described above.

💡
Your choice is account-specific. If you use Essential with another Minecraft account, you will need to update the setting there too.
